As much as we try to be paper-free at the office, there is still a fair amount of paper floating around. If you want to go green and recycle paper, but don’t want to compromise your sensitive information, here’s how to do it!
How to Safely Recycle Paper at the Office
There are two main ways to recycle paper at the office: a recycling bin and a shredder. One or a combination of both will help deal with the paper piles. You may not need safety cones or caution tape to recycle paper but there are a few tips to keep in mind.
If you want to encourage recycling, place bins around the office, particularly in areas with high paper traffic. You could place one next to each desk as well as in the copy room. This will help to remind staff to recycle those agendas and notes rather than throwing them away.
It’s important to use these only for paper that has no sensitive information on it – contract details, patient information, payment method data, etc. Use your common sense!
It’s important to remember NOT to recycle any documents with doodles about how much you dislike your boss. That wouldn’t be safe at all. Go ahead and walk those directly over to the….
If your documents are more sensitive (like evil boss doodles) then you might want to use a shredder instead. If you aren’t sure which shredder to choose, here are a few tips to help you select the best one for your needs. Something to consider is size and quantity: if you have many small shredders, you don’t have to wait to dispose of that sensitive information!
Just be sure you’ve had enough coffee before you start shredding. You don’t want the repetitive noise to put you to sleep and snag your fingers! Now that would be a safety hazard!
