Are you hoping to leave work early this afternoon?
Whether for a doctor appointment, Good Friday, a head start on your vacation, or a little league game, everyone needs to leave work early occasionally. So today I’m sharing (1) Proactive tips you can try to professionally leave early; (2) A recap of popular excuses in case tip #1 doesn’t work; (3) A hilarious “office escape” video sharing tips to use in case #1 and #2 don’t work out for you 🙂
Let’s get started!
Proactive Tips for Leaving Work Early:
- Arrive early on the day you plan to leave early
- Be sure to stay organized all day — don’t get distracted!
- Plan ahead. If you know you’re going to need to leave early on Friday, double-down earlier in the week so you can leave guilt-free.
- Notify your boss and co-workers ahead of time so that if they need your participation or input on a project, they’ll have time to get what they need before you disappear.
But let’s face it: Getting permission for an early work escape isn’t always possible or ideal.
Excuses to Leave Work Early
Do you really need help coming up with an excuse? Really? Excuses for leaving the office early are a dime a dozen and you’ve already heard them all: Illnesses, doctor appointments, dental implants unexpectedly falling out, workmen coming to your house, furniture deliveries, unfortunate biological occurrences, weddings, and funerals are all standard. (Okay, maybe not the dental implant excuse thing … now that I think about it, my boss sure uses that one a lot … hmm….)
